Winter Comfort Foods

There is nothing more enjoyable than homemade comfort food when it’s the middle of winter. Whether you like the blue box mac and cheese from when you were a kid or are adventurous and take a twist on a traditional favorite, here are some great ideas of what to make for dinner if you are craving comfort.

• Macaroni & Cheese. This meal is always a crowd pleaser, leaving
everyone wanting more. To switch up this classic recipe try out a different type of
noodle or mix in different cheeses such as white cheddar or Romano cheese. For some added protein add in some sliced up hot dogs or grilled chicken.

• Chili. Whether it’s a meat chili or chicken one; this makes for a hearty meal. Add a twist to your classic recipe by trying new and different toppings. Some of those may include but are not limited to: shredded cheese, olives, a dollop of sour cream, jalapenos or goldfish crackers.

• Tomato Soup & Grilled Cheese. This dynamic duo is sure to be a success every time you make it. Next time try different cheeses on your grilled cheese. Some great cheeses to try are: Gouda, pepper jack, provolone or cheddar. You can also change it up by adding bacon or tomatoes to your sandwich for added deliciousness.

• Pot Roast. Pot Roast is an amazing meal to make in your slow cooker. You can prep everything in the morning and come home to a savory and delicious meal. If you aren’t comfortable leaving the slow cooker on while you’re away from home try preparing everything right before you go to bed and let it cook overnight, once you wake up its good to go and can be easily heated up later.

• Pizza. Let’s be honest, this is probably a top contender for comfort foods. It’s a win every time. Try making your own homemade pizza next time. In a rush and don’t want to make the dough? You can always buy pre-made dough from the grocery store which comes in thin crust, whole wheat and other varieties. Instead of making your traditional cheese za try out: BBQ chicken, margarita, Hawaiian or dessert pizza!
